The National Bass Association for the Deaf 40th Anniversary Championship event was cancelled for day one due the severe thunderstorm and strong wind. This is the first time in NBAD’s history to cancel any day of the three day tournament that the weather would put the anglers’ safety in danger.
All 38 NBAD teams, each team consisting of 2 anglers, arrived at Oneida Shores County Park between 5:00 am and 5:45 am. NBAD tournament director, Mr. Rondale Ketchum, instructed all anglers to park their bass boats in the parking lot while the severe thunderstorm was passing through from the west.
Thunderstorms with heavy rain and wind was approaching Oneida Lake since 2:00 am. Temperatures were expected to be in the lower 70s, along with southwest wind ranging from 10 to 20 mph, with stronger gusts up to 35 mph in the afternoon. Mr. Rondale Ketchum, thought that it would be possible to delay to kick off for a couple of hours. NBAD anglers were instructed by the NBAD committee to return to the Comfort Suites Hotel for a 9:00 am meeting for the final announcement.
During the meeting, the President, Mr. Brett Ketchum made his final announcement after a short meeting with NBAD committee that the tournament was cancelled. We would like to thank NBAD committee for this concern for NBAD anglers’ safety. Day two of the NBAD 40th Anniversary Championship event will resume Wednesday morning at 6:00 am.
